Eau du Levant
How does the sea smell? Fresh lemony? Salty? Sunscreen and ozone? The ideal sea scent is more than just a smell for us. It is a mood, a feeling. Eau du Levant smells of distance, of warmth. To Mediterranean. Eau du Levant belongs to the fragrance family Chypre, which is determined by smells and aromas found on islands like Cyprus. Levant in French denotes the sunrise and at the same time the Levant, the mythical east of the Mediterranean.
Origin story
What does the sea smell like? This was the question Nikolaus Gelpke asked himself and the mare editorial team when the research for the mare issue The Scent of the Sea began. To approach the topic, they visited star perfumer Geza Schön in his fragrance workshop in Berlin-Kreuzberg and talked to him about the smell of the sea. They wanted to know from him: Could he create a marine fragrance for mare? The answer is Eau du Levant, the fragrance of the Mediterranean.
